His mother Elizabeth passed away on 22 March 1910 at about age 50.

Thomas married Vera Pearl Pearce on 16 August 1911. They went on to have at least eight children.

His name was published in the New Zealand Army WWI Reserve Rolls (1916-1917). Thomas was recorded living at Cutters Road, Lower Riccarton, Christchurch, employed as a Builder.

In the 1935 New Zealand, Electoral Rolls (1853-1981) Thomas Oates Alexander was recorded living at 37 Georges Drive, Napier with his wife Vera. He was employed as a building overseer.
