Biography
William Alvord was born 25 Jun 1804 in Homer, New York. He was the fifth child of Charles Alvord and Eunice Leaming.
He married 30 Sep 1832 @ Scott, New York, Lydia (Doubleday) Alvord (1808-1886) [b. 6 Nov 1808 @ Lebanon, Connecticut, daughter of Silas & Lucy (Dean) Doubleday; d. 2 Oct 1886 @ Homer, NY]. They had 4 children:
William Harley Alvord, b. 21 Oct 1833 @ Homer, New York; married Jennie L. Peck
Eunice Lodemia Alvord, b. 24 Jul 1835; married Job Bennett Clarke
Shubel Lansing Alvord, b. 23 Oct 1838 - 1889
Mary Eliza Alvord, b. 4 Jan 1845 - 1933
This was a farming family, recorded in census records from Scott Township, Cortland County, New York [1],[2],[3]. At the 1865 New York State census, William and Lydia (possibly nicknamed Sally) had their daughter Mary E. (Alvord) Mills and her husband Andrew J. Mills living with them [4]. By 1870, an additional child, Clara Mills, age 4, possibly a daughter of Mary, had joined the family [5].
William Alvord died 29 Aug 1884 in Scott, New York. His grave is in Atwater Cemetery, Homer, Cortland County, New York, USA [6].
