Research Notes

  • Alternate birth date: 1752 (see Source DAR Patriot Index Volume 1)
  • The image of James Thomas Arrington that appears in FamilySearch seems to be unlikely. His death pre-dates the age of photography.
  • There are two James Arringtons. One married Rebecca Portis, the other married Ann Willis. From the list of heirs, this clarifies that Ann Willis is the correct spouse for this James Arrington. This is confirmed by Daughters of the American Revolution, DAR Genealogical Research Databases, database online, (http://www.dar.org/ : accessed April 17th, 2015), "Record of Arthur Arrington Sr", Ancestor # A003341.. A 1985 letter to the North Carolina Genealogical Society Journal provides a clarification between inaccurate sources for this James Arrington's marriage to Portis and provides accurate sources for this James Arrington's marriage to Ann Willis.

Airington-26 and Arrington-105 appear to represent the same person because: This is a clear match; however, the marriage to Rebecca Portis is not correct. A James Arrington in North Carolina did marry Leah Portis, and this record could be the source of confusion.
