Biography

1874 Birth: Arthur was born on the 10 Feb 1874 in Newport, Yorkshire. His father was George William Bailey (1848-1927) and his mother was Elizabeth (Glasby) Bailey (1845-1918)

1881 Census: He is living at 12 Rugby Terrace, Eton Street, Hull with his family. He is 7, at school and born in Newport, Yorkshire. ^[1]

1891 Census: By the time of the 1891 census his family had moved to 21 Harrow Street, Holy Trinity, Hull. Arthur 17 and an Engine Cleaner. ^[2]

1901 Census: Now the family are living at 13 Haverlock Street, Hull. He is 27 and a Loco Gland Packer (packs glands of steam regulator valves and pump valves of engine with greased hemp or asbestos packing to make steam joints steam-tight or water-tight) ^[3]

1903 Marriage: Arthur married Mary Ann (McCarthy) Glansford in the Jul quarter of 1903 in Sculcoates, Hull. She had been previously married and had 3 children already. ^[4]

1911 Census: Arthur and his family are living at 125 Woodcock Street, Hull. He is 38 and a Gland Packer for the North East Railway. His wife Mary Ann is 41 and her children from her first marriage are Henry Matthew Glansford 20 a dock labourer, Lilian Maude Glansford 18, a fancy tin maker and Wilford Glansford. They also have a 7 year old son Albert Edward Bailey. ^[5]

1921 Census: In the 1921 census Arthur (age 47), Loco Gland Packer, was the married head of household at 125 Woodcock Street, Hull, Yorkshire (East Riding), England.^[6]

1939 Census: Arthur 68 and Mary 74 are living at 45 Greek Street, Hull, East Yorkshire. Arthur is retired and born 10 February 1874. His wife Mary was born on the 8 August 1868. ^[7]

1946 Death: He died in the March quarter 1946 in Hull, Yorkshire East Riding, England. ^[8]
