Biography

Mary E. Baker was born May 15, 1869 to Ansel Baker and Jennie Furman. Ansel died in 1869, and Jennie married David Griffith in 1870. Mary, age 1, is shown in Griffith's household in 1870 in Concord, Erie, New York. ^[1]

In 1880, Mary resided in the household of her stepfather, David E. Griffith in Concord, Erie, New York, with her mother, Mary (aka Jennie); stepsister, Alice; and half siblings, Fred, Nina, James, Hattie and Robert Griffith. ^[2]

Mary married Martin Rauch in about 1887. They and their three children - Loren, Edna and Bertha - lived on a dairy farm in Concord, Erie, New York in 1910. Their household included a servant, Jacob Laurie, who married Edna. ^[3]

After Mary's husband, Martin, died in 1929, Mary ran the dairy farm in Concord. She was head of household that was comprised of her daughter-in-law, Mabel Rauch, son Loren's widow, and grandchildren, Anna Marie, Robert, Ruth and Loren Rauch; and son-in-law, George Hesse, daughter Bertha's widowed husband, and grandchildren, Kenneth, Alice and Howard Hesse; and a cousin, George Marsilje. ^[4]

In 1940, Mary's grandsons, Kenneth and Howard Hesse, lived with her in Concord. ^[5]

Mary died February 8, 1958 in Silver Creek, Chautauqua, New York and was buried in Sibley Cemetery, Concord, Erie, New York. ^{[6] [7]}
