GRAY (I: 232). Henry and John, the founders of this family, were brothers of William Grey, citizen and merchant tailor of London, whose will 1 Sept. 1657, proved 18 Nov. 1663, mentioned them, referring to John as in New England. He also mentioned real estate in Hamerton, in the parish of Hackney, and water mills and real estate in Barking, East Hamton, and West Hampton, county Essex. The family was armigerous. [New Eng. Hist. and Gen. Register, 42: 72; 61: 386.][1]
John (I: 233) settled in Newtown, Long Island, and was almost certainly father of Isaac of Newtown who m. Susanna Simons. Isaac removed to New York City, and his sons Abraham and Jacob (who m. respectively Ariaantje and Annetje Aertsen, sisters), after sojourning on Staten Island and in Harlingen. N. J., died in Hunterdon County, N. J., where they fathered a respect¬able tribe of Grays at Amwell and Kingwood[1].
The second wife of Henry (II: 398), named as Elizabeth at his death in 1713, may have been Elizabeth Alcock. b. at New Haven, 6 Feb. 1679, who was named as Elizabeth Gray in her father's estate records in 1715. She was daughter of Philip and Elizabeth (Mitchell) [1].
William (II: 412), baptism 8 Nov. 1767, was b. 24 June 1767, d. at New Fairfield, 22 Sept. 1844, and m. at Kent. 17 May 1793, Sarah Jennings. His brother Allen, b. 1781; his half-brother Russell, b. 1794, m. Hannah Jones[1].
Susanna was born Susanna Bartentszen, about Sep 1665, to parents Simon Barentszen and Wijntie Arents[2]. She was baptized on 22 Sept 1665[3] , in New Amsterdam, New Netherland (New York City, New York)[3]. She married Isaac Gray[4]. Isaac and Susanna were parents of: Children: Simon bap. 22 Apr 1688, Isaac bap. 14 Dec 1690, Samuel bap. 9 Apr 1693, second Samuel bap. 22 Jan 1696, Abraham and Jacob both bap. 14 Aug 1700.
