OBITUARY MRS. MARY DUNN
Though she had not enjoyed good health for many years the sudden death of Mrs. John Dunn, of Numalla, Trundle, on Thursday from the effects of a stroke came as a shock to her family and friends. She had been ill for only a fortnight and was in the Tullamore private hospital when she passed away. Born at Baldry in May, 1878, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Barrett, of Alectown, and one of a family of ten. With her parents she went to live at Alectown as a child and she lived in the Peak Hill district all her life. She is survived by her husband, whom she married at Parkes in 1895, and a family of four daughters and eleven sons. They are May (Mrs. C. Hayes, of Grenfell), Ida (Mrs. Rowley, of Orange), Doris (Mrs. Petrie, of Sydney) Celia (Mrs. McMahon of Tullamore) and Thomas, Arthur, William and Bert (of Peak Hill), Rothwell, Walter, Hilton, Harold, Leonard (Pat), and Charlie (of Tullamore) and Norman (of Sydney). Thirty-eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive, and a sister, Mrs. W. Harris, of Peak Hill, and one brother, Mr. Joseph Barrett, of Peak Hill. The funeral took place at Peak Hill on Good Friday afternoon, leaving St. James' Roman Catholic Church after a service at 4 p.m. The very long cortege proceeded to the Catholic portion of the Peak Hill cemetery where deceased was interred. Rev. Father Heath officiated at both services. All members of her family were present at the services.
A birth certificate for Mary has not been found (same as many of her siblings) Family stories tell that the Barrett family moved around various goldfields and mining areas during the years that the children were born. This is a possible reason for the missing birth records in the family.
