Mary Beals was born 24 Mar 1692 to Mary and John Beals in Nottingham, Chester, Pennsylvania.[1][2] Neither of her Quaker birth records or later primary documents contain the middle name "Ann."
Mary married Richard Harrold in 1709 which is recorded in the Concord Monthly Meeting minutes.[3]
Their proven children are:
Elizabeth b 10 May 1711 in Chester, Pennsylvania[4]
Richard birth year ranges 1720-1723. There is no primary source birth record for this son. Some believe he died young. Others believe he lived a normal life but there is little evidence of it. The one possible clue indicating he may have existed and been part of this family is the Will of Mary Ann Beals' father where four children of Rachel are listed, including Richard, and each is to receive 10 shillings when they come of age. That Will was written 1726 when Richard would have been between 3-6 years of age. It is possible that he did not survive long after this and is thus not found in later records.
It is commonly seen that Mary died in 1740 in Frederick, Virginia or buried in the Cane Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Orange County, North Carolina. There is currently no documentary evidence of her date or place of death.
Research Notes
Please be wary of Find-A-Grave memorials for Mary Harrold which contain unsourced and incorrect information.
www.billputman.com/Beals.pdf shows sources for Beals family going back to father John Beals (Beales) born in Wales in the early 1650s, plus all siblings and close descendants. [Note that research in this PDF is not fully documented and contains information later shown to be in error.]
This profile was edited and re-sourced by T Stanton in September 2018 and research on Mary Beals, particularly related to her date and place of death, is ongoing.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
Beals-31 and Beals-1109 appear to represent the same person because: These appear to be the same Mary Ann Beals who married Richard Harrold. It should be noted that the daughter Rebekah Harrold does not seem to appear among Quaker records as a child of Richard and Mary Ann Harrold. But the merge would consolidate what are now two profiles for the same wife of Richard Harrold.
See Richard Harrold profile for original document marriage record dated 22 Mar 1709.
There is a terrific amount of conflicting information in this profile, inactive external links, etc. Does one of the PMs want to undertake the clean-up? I was going to add some new source information but it looks like everyone might benefit from a cleaning first.
Bales-289 and Beals-31 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth/death dates and locations. Same husband (name spelling variations). LNAB should be Beals, as that is how all of the later generations spelled it, even though earlier generations used variations Bales, Bailes, Balles, Bayles, Beales, etc. Variations to be documented.
