Rachel Skaggs was born about 1769 in Montgomery County, Virginia, the daughter of Ruth (Elkins) Bishop.
(Her father has been presumed by many to be john Skaggs, although there is no evidence of any paternal relationship to Rachel to any John Skaggs.)
Rachel married William Calvin Gilford Lester, the son of Abner Lester and Martha Rebecca Arthur, on 26 Mar 1786 in Montgomery County, Virginia. [1][2][3] Rachel was granted permission to marry by her mother Ruth and her stepfather John Bishop. Security (bond) and witnesses were Samuel Sadler, Edmund WItt, and Archibald Witt.[4]

Research Notes
Name of her father: There is no evidence that John Skaggs was the father of Rachel. The name of her father has been inferred from the perceived relationship between Zachariah Skaggs (abt.1745-1818) and John Skaggs (1754-bef.1780), who was either a brother or father. Any relationship between Rachel and Zachariah is a matter of speculation.

Purported Native American Heritage: [Bishop_Bischoffresearch] Lester and Indian)
Hi, I can tell you how William Calvin Lester's wife Rebecca Skaggs was related to Pocahontas, which of course would also apply to all who are descendants of William and Rebecca Skaggs Lester.
Pocahontas was a member of the Patawomeck tribe of Indians, sometimes called the Potomac tribe. The Potomac River was named after that tribe. Rebecca Skaggs was a descendant of Pocahontas' first cousin Wahanganoche, also known as Whipsewasson, the last chief of the Patawomeck Indian tribe and a nephew of Chief Powhatan, father of Pocahontas. Here's a descendancy tree from Wahanganoche to Rebecca Skaggs:

John Skaggs was NOT listed on the marriage record of Rachel Skaggs and William Lester. John Bishop and Ruth Bishop are listed as her parents in the marriage record. (Please see attached image.)
It's possible that a Rebecca Skaggs, daughter of John Skaggs, has been "merged" by family historians with Rachel Skaggs who married William Lester. No Rebecca was a biological daughter of John Skaggs.
