Biography

Richard was born about 1765. He is the son of Peter Blankenship Sr. and Cecily Ligon.

He married Rebecca Ann Dillon about 1790.

The 1820 Census[1] shows him over 45 years of age, in Pearisburg, Giles County, Virginia.

The 1830 Census[2] shows him between the ages of 60-70 in Giles County, Virginia.

He is listed as the father of the bride when his daughter Martha married in 1833.[3]

He passed away in 1846.

Research Notes

  1. Family Search shows an 1840 Census for a "Richardson Blankingship" in Chesterfield County, Virginia, but it cannot be the same man, as his age is between 30-40, when it should be 75.
  2. Was he really married three times to three different women, each named Rebecca?
  3. What source gives him that nickname, "Chief Cornstock"?

Hi all,

Is anyone actively working on getting the Richard Blankenship family sorted? I am a descendant, but I am hesitant to link up my line because of the lack of documentation on this profile.

All the best,

Jason

It's been over a year since this was moved to "Unmerged Match." So, let's review:

Blankenship-1923 and Blankenship-24 appear to represent the same person because: Same date and location of birth. Same date of death. One wife is the same. And they have the same father. The first question here is: was he born of his father's first wife or second wife? Answer: Richard was born in 1765. Ann Belcher died in 1766. Peter, Richard's father, married Cecily Ligon in 1767. So, Ann is the mother. I would love to have a birth certificate, but short of that, the above logic makes it reasonable for this merge to proceed.

The second question is: What is with all the wives named Rebecca - who all died in the same year (1850) ?? Does anyone else suspect that they are all the same person?

According to http://www.blankenshipweb.com/don.blankenship this Richard was the son of Peter Sr and his second wife, Cicily Ligon.

Blankenship-1923 and Blankenship-24 are not ready to be merged because: Different mothers and some other variations make me inclined to think that these need to be further investigated.

Blankenship-1923 and Blankenship-24 appear to represent the same person because: These two are duplicated profiles. Please merge. However, the father on profile Blankenship-1923 is incorrect due to the birth date being 10 years before Blankenship-1923 was born. Mothers also have to be determined.

Blankenship-2555 and Blankenship-24 appear to represent the same person because: French-7657
Blankinship-54 and Blankenship-24 appear to represent the same person because: Blankinship is the incorrect spelling of the last name. All other information matches.
