Research Notes

Although there is unsourced data showing Susannah Tenney as Jonathan's first wife and a mention of her in the Marlborough Town History I have not been able to find any record of her birth or their marriage. Williams-27459 21:54, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

Biography

Jonathan was the son of Jonathan Blodgett and Molly (Fitch) Blodgett and was born in Jaffrey NH in 1756. [1]

His first wife was Susannah Tenney. [citation needed]

His second wife was Parney Goodenough. They were married in Marlborough, NH in 1795. [2]

The Town of Marlborough History has the following information on Jonathan:

Jonathan Blodgett, b. in 1755, came to Marlborough [New Hampshire] about 1794. He had previously resided in Harvard, Massachusetts and Jaffrey, New Hampshire. He was in the wars of the Revolution, entering the army when twenty years of age; was at the battle of Bennington and also one of the sufferers at Ticonderoga. His first wife was Susan Tenney, probably of Jaffrey. His children with Susan listed are
  1. Joseph, died in Gilead Maine
  2. Luke, b 1787
  3. Nathan, died in Jaffrey
  4. Sarah, died in Berlin, NH
  5. Polly, married May 5, 1811 Levi Whittemore. Died in Troy Jan 31, 1858.
Mrs. Blodgett died and he second married Parney, daughter of Benjamin Goodenough, Oct 8, 1795. About 1800 he removed to Gilead, Maine where he died at the age of 96. Children by second wife:-

  2. Nancy, resided in Attleboro, Mass.
  3. Samuel, resided in Berlin, NH
  4. Joseph, resides in Berlin, NH
  5. Roxanna
  6. Betsey
  7. Washington

His military pension record indicates his death was December 1850. [4]

Jonathan (6) son of Jonathan (5) and Molly (Fitch) Blodgett was born in Lexington, Mass [Jaffrey, NH more likely, but his father was born in Lexington] Mar. 6, 1756. He married 1st: Susanna Tenney of Rockingham, Vt. formerly of Bethel, Me. She died in 1794. Children: Joseph ... Luke ... Sally ... Nancy ... Polly ... Nathan ... Susanna Jonathan (6) married 2nd Oct 8, 1795 Parney (or Parna) Goodenough b. May 7, 1776, daughter of Benjamin Goodenough. She died in Gilead, Me Oct 7, 1853. Children: Jonathan ... Roxanna ... Samuel ... Joseph ... Betsy ... Washington ... Eben ... Ruby ... Arrilla Jonathan (6) appears to have lived in Harvard (Mass.), Jaffrey and Marlborough (N.H.), and about 1800 moved to Gilead (Me.). Records show lists of children born or living in the last three towns. He died in Gilead (Me.) aged 76 years (1833). He had three terms of service in the Revolutionary Army:-- 1st, in Capt Joseph Parker's Company at Ticonderoga in 1776, and in the Account of losses: -- "Jonathan Blodgett of Jaffrey lost a great-coat at Ticonderoga."; 2nd, In Capt. Salmon Stone's Company at Stillwater, 1777; 3rd, In Capt. Samuel Twitchell's Company, Col. Enoch Hale's Reg't, Rhode Island Expedition, 1778.
