Admiral Henry John Blomfieldwas born 17 Jan 1826 St Botolph Bishopsgate, London, England, United Kingdom [1] to Charles James Blomfield and Dorothy (Cox) Blomfield. He was christened at St Botolph's Bishopsgate on 17 Jan 1826.[2]
Henry's father was Rector of St Botolph's as well as Bishop of Chester at the time of Frederick's birth. In 1828 he was appointed a Privy Counsellor and became Bishop of London. The family then resided at Fulham Palace in Fulham, London.
Henry John Blomfield joined the Royal Navy in 1840, passing in 1846. He became a Lieutenant on 25 Jun 1847. As of 24 Jan 1851 he was Lieutenant on the frigate Arrogant in Portsmouth, and as of 20 Dec 1852 he was Lietenant on the frigate Impérieuse in Woolwich, then Portsmouth, then North America and West Indies. He became a Commander on 26 Jan 1855, and was Commander of the gunvessel Osprey in the Mediterranean from 18 Mar 1856 until 23 Mar 1860. After which point he was no longer in active service.[3].
In the 1861 census Henry (age 35) was the son of Dorothy Blomfield in Richmond, Surrey, England.[4]

In 1861 Henry Blomfield (age 35, Commander RN 1/2 Pay) lived at Lansdowne Place in Richmond, Surrey with his mother Dorothy (68, Fundholder), two sisters: Lucy E (30) and Dorothy (25), two visitors: John Cox (70, Rector of Fairstead Essey) and Sarah Baston (37, Invalid Nurse), and six servants: John Hamer (44, Baker), Elizabeth M Barlow (33, Cook), Betsy Anthony (30, Ladys Maid), Mary Briston (28, Housemaid), Elizabeth Warren (20, Kitchen Maid), and William Haviland (15, Page).[5]
Henry John Blomfield was promoted to Captain on 20 Aug 1861, and retired on 1 Apr 1870.[6]
In 1871 Hy John Blomfield (age 45, Capt Retired) was a boarder in St James, London.[7]
By 1884 Henry was a Rear-Admiral.
Henry was promoted to Vice-Admiral in 1884 - from the London Gazette on 22 Feb 1884: "... Dated 17th February, 1884. Consequent on the foregoing, the following promotions have taken place on the Retired List: Rear-Admirals: Henry John Blomfield [and three others] to be Vice-Admirals on the Retired List.[8]
Henry was promoted to Admiral in 1887 - from the London Gazette on 21 Oct 1887: "... Dated 18th October, 1887. ... Consequent on the foregoing, the following promotions have been made on the Retired List, from the same date: Vice-Admirals: Henry John Blomfield [and two others] to be Admirals."[9]
Henry John Blomfield resided at 42 Pall Mall in the Borough of Strand, London from at least 1890 onwards.[10]
Henry John Blomfield passed away on 4 Jun 1900, aged 74 years. His death was registered in Westminster St Margaret, London in the second quarter of the year.[11] "BLOMFIELD Henry John of 42 Pall Mall Middlesex admiral in the Royal Navy died 4 June 1900 Probate London 2 July to Joseph Watson Overbury stockbroker and Charles James Blomfield architect Effects £4999 19s. 1d."[12][13]
