Frank Blomfield was born in Cambridgeshire, England.

Francis was born in 1827 in Cambridgeshire, England and Baptised on 17th January 1828. [1]Francis was the 13th born child of Bishop of London, Reverend Charles Blomfield and second wife, Dorothy (Cox) Kent. At the time of his birth his father was Chaplain to the Bishop of London and was later to serve for 32 years as Bishop of London.

Francis Blomfield was one of the 17 passengers that died in the PSS Northerner steamer disaster off the Californian Coast on 6th of January, 1860 at Centerville, Beach[2][3]The Steamer hit a rock in stormy seas off the coast of Centerville Beach, Humboldt, USA. <block quote>Northerner sailed for the last time from San Francisco with 108 persons on board at the time of the wreck, 58 passengers and 53 crew. The ship hit a submerged rock and wrecked January 6, 1860 on Centerville Beach, California, a few miles south of the entrance to Humboldt Bay. Thirty-eight people died: 17 were passengers and 21 crew. One of those who died was Francis Blomfield, son of the late Bishop of London, Charles James Blomfield. Seventy others made their way through crashing surf to shore and were aided by local people including Seth Kinman and Arnold Berding.</block quote>
