Biography

John was born in 1685. He died in March 1720. [1] [2] He was the son of William Boddie and his second wife, Elizabeth. [3] He married Elizabeth, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Hill) Thomas. Her maternal grandfather was Colonel Nicholas Hill, Member of House of Burgesses (1663-1666) and her maternal grandmother was Silvestra Bennett, the daughter of Edward Bennett, Burgess from his plantation, "Bennetts Welcome" 1628. [4] She survived him and married, secondly, John Dawson, Colonel of Northampton Regiment, Associate Justuce of the Supreme Court of North Carolina. [5]

Marriage

Children:

  1. William Boddie 1710–1772 m. Mary Bennett and removed to North Carolina.
  2. John Boddie 1712–1777 m. Elizabeth Jeffries and removed to South Carolina, establishing that branch of the family.

John wrote his will 10 March 1719 and it was probated 25 April 1720 in Isle of Wight, Virginia. [6] When John died his two sons were still under 10 years of age. In his will he provided for the education of his sons, "that they shall have schooling for to learn to read, write and cipher, and ye same for to be paid out of ye rents of my lands." Found during the inventory of his estate was an old Bible, an Anabaptist Bible, and a number of books. [7]

Could some kind soul review the wives and merge if appropriate? Also the referenced marriage date happens after death of the husband, this needs review.
