The Philip Bowers discussed here is not the son of Christian Bowers and Elizabeth Schindeldecker. Much information on this Bowers family is available on Find-a-Grave Memorials, where his parents are identified as John Bowers, Sr. and Elizabeth. The early history of this Bowers family is fascinating and it is easy to see how the two Philips got mixed up. This Philip lived near Timberville, VA and married Catherine Kipps in 1811. Christian's Philip, 10 years older, also lived near Timberville (near Forestville) and established a family about 10 years when he married Elizabeth. See the profile of Christian Bowers to learn more about Christian's family.
It cannot be sufficiently emphasized that the Philip Bowers who led the family’s colonization of Clearfield and Jefferson Counties is not the son of Christian Bauer of Forestville, Virginia, as is habitually stated on the Internet. Bauer’s son Philip was older than the Jefferson County Philip and was not Pennsylvania-born as was this Philip (per the 1860 Census, along with all Censuses for his many siblings). (A better candidate for Christian’s son would be Memorial # 21334215.) Aside from clearly being sibling to all the others Bowers who moved to Pennsylvania in the 1820s (including John Jr. and William who are specifically identified as John Sr.’s son in the Chancery litigation), this Philip submitted affidavits written from Clearfield County, PA in support of John Bowers, Sr. of Plains Mill, VA. Clearly the identification of this Philip Bowers with a son of Christian Bauer is merely a confusion of namesakes. [2]
Anyone who wants to pursue this Bowers family could get a tremendous amount of information from the various Find a Grave memorials that can be accessed easily from the reference above.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Philip by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Philip:
It is unlikely that Philip was born as late as 1787, which is the birth year for the Philip Bowers, wife Catherine, that died in Jefferson county Pa. in 1866. If PHilip son of Christian had been born in 1787, his mother would have been in her mid 50s. Therefor this Philip is not the Philip Bowers who married Catherine Kipps and moved to Jefferson co. PA
