Henry, son of John Bauman and Catherine Stambaugh,[1] was born 13 April 1849 in York County, Pennsylvania.[1] His parents had him baptized 13 May 1849 at Saint Matthew's Lutheran Church in Hanover, York County.[1]

of , was born in Heidelberg Township, York County, Pennsylvania.

Residence (1860) Heidelberg Township, York, Pennsylvania John (age 40, tenant farmer) and Catharine Bowman (44), and Philip S. (14), John S. (10), Henry S. (11), Angelina (9), Agnes (7), Catharine (5) and Alice Senora Bowman (1).[2]

On 14 January 1869 in York County, he married

  1. Eda Jinnie "Edith" (Bowman) Messersmith (b. 22 October 1873;[3] m. Henry S. "Harry" Messersmith;[4] d. 1 January 1928).[5][6]

Residence (1870) owned farm valued at $5,000 (about $2.5 million in 2022)[7] Heidelberg Township John (age 55, retired farmer) and Catharine Bowman (53), Catharine (16, student), Alice (12, student) and John Bowman (23, laborer), and Catharina (Brillhart) Stambaugh (82).[8] Living next door were her brother Henry (21, laborer), his spouse Sevilla (Myers) Bowman (1845-1927) (24), and their daughter Anna Bowman (1).[8]

By 1880, Henry (age 30, farmer) and Seville Bowman (34), Ida May (9), Joanna Measa (7), Eda Jinnie (6), Daisey (5), Samuel T. (4) and John Henry Bowman (1) had relocated to Penn Township, York County.[9]
