Biography

Son of an Englishman, from Salem to Gravesend, Long Island, ~1645

Judge James Bowne, eldest son of William and Ann Bowne, was born August 26 1636 in Salem, Massachusetts and died February 1695 in Middletown, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He was very active in the political affairs of Middleton and one of the founders of the first Baptist Church there.[1][2]He married Mary Stout, daughter of Richard and Penelope Kent Van Princin Stout, December 26, 1665 at Gravesend, Long Island[3] This marriage resulted in his receipt of 240 acres in the name of Mary Stout in Middletown, New Jersey and being added as a Patentee. They were the parents of:

  2. John
  3. William
  4. Andrew
  5. Samuel[4][5]

Research Note

The fifth child is said to possibly be the son of James Bowne the eldest child of James and Mary Stout Bowne as cited above.
