Walter Brashers married Elizabeth Basham on December 17, 1829, in Lawrence County, Tennessee. They moved, with their four older children, to Lawrence County, Missouri in 1836. There they continued to increase the size of their family. Elizabeth died in Feb. 1863. It is said that Walter was killed by bushwhackers a few days after witnessing a gang of them stealing the neighboring horse
