Biography

Sarah Brower was born between 1784-1791 according to census and various undocumented family records. In 1860 Sarah Williams was age 69, born Pennsylvania and resided with her husband James Williams at Greenupsburg in Greenup County, Kentucky in the household of their son John Williams. [1] She died (according to find a grave, but no source given) on 11 March 1862 at Raceland, Greenup County, Kentucky.[2] Assorted correspondence between persons seeking to join patriotic organizations[3][4] has muddied the waters further and not provided any sources for the birth or death dates of Sarah.[5][6]

Her parents were Henry Brewer and Sarah Hawk. Their daughter Sarah was mentioned in the Revolutionary War Pension of her father Henry Brewer.[7] [8]

Sally Brewer and James Williams were married on 15 Aug 1814 in Martinsburg, Berkeley County, Virginia (now West Virginia). The bondsman was William Spence, witness M. Locke. The minister's name is difficult to interpret and looks like Richd. Reebenak.[9]

In 1830 Sarah Brewer Williams resided at Adams Co., Ohio. [10] The Williams family had moved to Greenup County, Kentucky by 1834.[11] There were numerous households for James Williams in Adams County, Ohio in 1830 and 1840 census which makes it almost impossible to identify the proper family. Neither have efforts to find the family in the 1850 census been successful. The 1860 census was the last census Sarah was enumerated. Her husband was in the 1870 census but Sarah was not therefore it is presumed she died after 1860 in Greenup County, Kentucky. Family members and Find A Grave have reported she is buried in the Caroline Cemetery, Raceland, Greenup County, Kentucky.[12] In 1982, her descendant, Patterson Williams, reported Sarah's grave was in the Caroline Cemetery but was not next to her husband's grave.[13]
