Biography

Toussaint was born in 1801. He is the son of Michel Brunel and Marie Josephe Philipine Dussault.

Toussaint Brunel, son of Michel Brunel and of Marie Josephe Dussault, first married with Marie Louise Viau, minor daughter of Jean Baptiste Viau and the late Marie Louise Demers, on 30 January 1821 in Varennes.[1]

3 known children from the marriage, 1 known to die young.[2]

Louise Viau dite L'Espérance, wife of Toussaint Brunelle, died on 23 October 1828, funeral on the 25th in Boucherville, the record giving her 27 years of age.[3]

Toussaint Brunel, widower of Louise Viau dite L'Espérance, remarried on 23 June 1829 in Boucherville with Sophie Gilbert dite Laframboise, daughter of Antoine Gilbert dit Laframboise and of the late Marie Victoire Charron.[4] One child Charles was born of this marriage in 1830.

Sophie Guilbert, wife of toussaint Brunelle, died on 18 September 1830 and was buried on the 20th in Boucherville, the record giving her 23 years of age.[5]

Julie Robacker Reed, minor daughter of James Robacker Reed and of Anne Andalle, married Toussaint Brunel, widower of Sophie Guilbert, on 31 January 1832 in Varennes.[6] The tuteur ad hoc of the bride, Jessie Briant, gave consent to the marriage.

There are eight known children born of this marriage. Marie Elmire was the first on 8 Nov 1832 in Boucherville. The second child born to them on 7 October 1834, was baptized on the 8th in Varennes, Eucariste Brunel.[7] The remaining six children were all born in Chazy, New York and baptized at St-Joseph-du-Corbeau in Coopersville, New York.
