Malinda was born in 1843 in Canada. She was the daughter of Phillip Bruner and Mary Ann Munger.

Malinda’s family came to the United States and settled in Harlem Township in 1849. [1]

She married A.J. Swezey in 1865. [2]

Her brother Malcolm married A.J.’s sister, Sophronia.

They farmed in Guilford. [3]

Malinda died in 1934.

AGED GUILFORD RESIDENT DIES
Malinda Swezey, 90, Pioneer Settler, Succumbs

Mrs. Malinda B. Swezey, 90, who came to Winnebago County with her parents from Canada in a covered wagon in the year of 1849, died Thursday at her home on Guilford Road where she had resided the last 67 years.

Mrs Swezey who was the widow of A Judson Swezey had been in failing health the last several months. She observed her 90th birthday last October 6.

Born in Gosfield, Ontario, Canada on Oct 6, 1843, she came to Harlem Township in 1849 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Bruner and other members of the family. The trip was made overland in a covered wagon. They settled on a farm in Harlem Township where she resided until her marriage to A. Judson Swezey in 1868 [sic].

The couple then went to live on a farm in Guilford where Mrs. Swezey spent the remainder of her life. A daughter, Miss Anna Swezey resided on the farm with her.

Surviving are four children. They are Mrs Etta M. Coy, of Rockford; Otto H. Swezey of Honolulu, Hawaii; Roy E. Swezey of Eugene, Oregon; and Miss Anna Swezey, at home. There are five grandchildren.

Mrs. Swezey was an active member of the State Street Baptist Church and a charter member of the Guilford Hope Grange. She was one of the few Grange members to receive 50 year gold pin of the state grange. She received her gold pin in 1932.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 pm at the farm home in Guilford. The Rev W.C. Rutherford, pastor of State Street Baptist will officiate. Burial will take place at Marsh Cemetery. [4]
