A 1682 reference in the journals of the House of Burgesses indicates that he was paid a bounty for the capture of "runaways" in Charles City County, VA.[1] This is the first known reference to Lawrence.
In 1711 in Prince George County, Virginia (formed from part of Charles City Co. in 1703), he was the executor of the will of his mother in law Sarah Evans. The will lists wife Sarah and children William, Lawrence, Eliza, and Henry, though surname in original will is mistakenly given as "Bucknall" - this misspelling is corrected in the accompanying probate documentation.[2] Lawrence Jr. is certainly found in later records of Dinwiddie Co., which was created out of Prince George (1752), though the fate of the other children is currently unknown. Edward Buckner, q.v.,, who is associated with Lawrence Jr. in later records, was probably another son of Lawrence Sr., though it appears he had not been born yet at the time the will was written.
In the same county, Prince George, he is mentioned in the accounts of several estates over the next decade, Thomas Jackson's on 8 Sep 1714, James Boreman's on 14 May 1717, and William Talbott's on 12 May 1719. His own estate was administrated by his widow Sarah on 13 Sep 1720, when his inventory was valued at £41/2/0, as appraised by Peter Talbott, Thomas Scarbro, & Benj. Reekes.[3]
