I started on my tree around 1987. I've primarily used internet resources to develop leads and compile my tree. My master tree contains almost 29,000 persons, many of whom have limited identities linked by marriage to my core family entries. I try to find information that corroborates my entries but as I'm sure you know, much that we find is second-hand information in census records, death certificates, etc.

Much has been gleaned from Ancestry.com but clicking the leaves for hints can lead to incorrect information. I have made contact with cousins whose assistance has been invaluable and even found the connection with a co-worker that thought he might be related due to my surname having been used as a given name for his father. Message boards at Ancestry and other sites have also helped.

[1]== Biography == John was the last of eight children born to Albert Thomas Danley and Myrtle Irene Hoover. He was born at home in 1940 in a house directly across the street from the Baldwin City Kansas public school. The family lived in three other houses in town during his time there. After graduation from high school, he attended Baker University for two years before moving to Kansas City, Kansas, and getting married in 1960. After marrying and starting his family, he commuted to Baker University for one semester in the fall of 1961. He later completed his formal education at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, obtaining a B.S. degree in Chemistry while developing job skills at Thompson-Hayward Chemical Company in Kansas City, Missouri. He soon was transferred to a new complex alongside the Kansas River in Kansas City, Kansas. After graduation in 1970 he remained at Thompson-Hayward until 1973, when he obtained a position at Puritan-Bennett Corporation as a Process Engineer. He worked from an office in downtown Kansas City, Missouri but among his duties was plant and branch inspections that required travel to company locations nationwide and one facility in Canada. The new employer used his background at Thompson-Hayward, coupled with his degree in Analytical Chemistry, on a broad number of assignments and positions within the company. He served as a representative of the company at the Compressed Gas Association and was on several task forces that formulated the industry positions on proposed governmental regulations and revised publications that the Association publishes. He served as Chairman of the Medical Gases Committee and the Medical Division, which oversaw the activities of the Medical Equipment Committee as well. Regulatory Agencies he interfaced with to assure that company procedures were in compliance included the Food and Drug Administration, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and the Department of Transportation. His first marriage ended in a divorce in 1982. In January 1984 his department was relocated to a facility in Lenexa, Kansas, where he met his second wife. They married in November of that year and he moved to Lenexa, where she owned a townhouse. He remained at the company until retirement in 2003. Upon retirement they moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas.

Hi John,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Hi John,

Thank you for signing the Honor Code and adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To find other potential relatives, continue adding sourced profiles for other lines until you can connect on all branches. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.

Have fun!

Hi,

I see that you have had your DNA tested, congratulations! Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

To be able to add more names you will need to volunteer, you can do this from your Navigation page. Just add tags showing your genealogical interests e.g. surnames you are researching, in the comments box by them add the location/relationship to you, then click on the green box that says "Save tags and volunteer." We will then be able to confirm you as a member.

Volunteering just means you will work on your ancestors to help us achieve our goal of joining all individual family trees into one global family tree.

I hope this helps! If you have any problems, let me know.

Take care
