Biography

Hyppolite Caissie was born on 13 Jan 1820 and baptized on 18 Jun 1820 in Grande-Digue, the son of Felix Caissie and Victoire Fournier.^[1][2]

Hyppolite married Agnès McGraw, daughter of Alexis McGraw and Anne Liret, on 17 Feb 1840 in Barachois.^[3][4] Their children were:

3. Euphémie Caissie (born 7 Oct 1846)
4. Joseph Caissie (born 9 Oct 1848)
5. Gabriel Caissie (born 9 Sep 1852)

7. Marie Caissie (born about 13 May 1855)

9. Phémie Caissie (born 18 Nov 1860)
10. Geneviève "Julia" Caissie (born 18 Jun 1863)

In the 1861 census Polite (age 43) was a farmer in Dundas, Kent, New Brunswick.^[5] He was listed with his wife Annies (sic) and seven children.

In the 1871 census Hipepites (sic, age 50) was recorded as married in Shediac, Westmorland, New Brunswick.^[6]

He died on 17 Oct 1896 in Shédiac and was buried two days later in Grande-Digue, aged 75.^[7][8] The name of his wife was omitted in the parish register.

Research Notes

Hyppolite appears to be listed in the household of his son Aimé Caissie in the 1901 census in Shediac. So the 1896 death record should be for a different Hyppolite Caissie, but there don't appear to be any other potential Hyppolite Caissie men that it could belong to.
