Biography

Robert Campbell, son of William Campbell and Margaret Sutherland of Achlone, Halkirk was baptised in the parish of Halkirk, Caithness on 18 July 1805.[1]

In 1841, Robert was living at home at Achlone, Halkirk with his father, mother and sister Bell.[2]

Two years later, on 10 February 1843, Robert married Catherine Bain from the neighbouring hamlet of Harpsdale.[3]

Robert and Catherine had three children:

  1. William Campbell baptised in Halkirk on 14 July 1844[4]
  2. Kenneth Campbell baptised in Halkirk on 19 September 1847[5]
  3. Catherine Campbell born in Halkirk about 1849.[6]

Robert's wife, Catherine, died in December 1849, and Robert remained at Achlone with his parents and his two sons, William and Kenneth.[7]

Robert died at Achlone, aged 54, on 16 October 1859 and was buried in Halkirk Churchyard beside his wife, Catherine. Robert's death was registered by Catherine's brother Donald Bain.[8]
