This Biography is all quoted from book: "Chaffin Genealogy" - By: Verner Bee (Fry) Chaffin; 1999.
"Joseph Chaffin was born in Virginia in 1749. Much research has been done trying to determine and verify his first name. Amos, Abner, Abel, as well as Joseph have been presented. From the deductions of diligent genealogy researchers - - Joseph has been chosen as the most likely name.
Joseph's parents also are not known at this time. He married Mary Moor (Moore), whose father is believed to be Amos Moor. She was born in 1749 also. Mary died in 1850, being 101 years old, in Itawamba County, Mississippi. She is buried in Itawamba County.[1]
She probably was in the home of her grandson - Joseph, whose daughter - Sarah Helena Chaffin was fifteen at the time of her great grandmother'sdeath and this was nine years before Sarah first married. in Itawamba.
Joseph, after his first two sons were born in Virginia, left for Burke +County, North Carolina by 1790 census. His other children were born in Burke County.
Joseph later went to Georgia by 1809 with his son Amos. However, Joseph was in Davie County, North Carolina when he died. The year appears to be missing. He apparently died before his wife, leaving the possible reason why Mary was in the home of their grandson Joseph.
Joseph Chaffin, Sr. and Mary Moor had five children:
i. Abner Chaffin
ii. Amos Chaffin
iii. Elias Chaffin
iv. Joseph Chaffin
v. Daughter Chaffin"

"Chaffin Genealogy" - By: Verner Bee (Fry) Chaffin; 1999. Although it had not been proven at the time that Joseph is his name, this is information that has been printed. The message board has his date of birth as being 9 August 1744, also that his name could possibly be Amos or John. [2].

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:
Chaffin-719 and Chaffin-648 are not ready to be merged because: I am not sure they are the same. I had his name as Joseph and someone changed it to John. According to the records I have came across his name could be John. All through the lines of this family, there are several with the same names. Naming their children with the same names also.
