Hello, B!

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s VERY IMPORTANT to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi B!

Thanks for adding sources and updating the bio and data fields for our common ancestor Johannes Michael (Limbaugh) Lÿmbach (abt.1708-1769). It appears that you and I are 6th cousins once removed via our Most Recent Common Ancestors, Georg Friederich Limbaugh (bef.1734-aft.1811) and Anna Catharine (Ritter) Limbaugh (abt.1737-aft.1795).

Please let me know if you'd like me to add you to the Trusted List or as a co-Profile Manager for any of the above-mentioned 3 profiles and/or any related profiles for which I'm a PM. I usually find it beneficial to have the profiles of my direct-line ancestors on my Watchlist (and either being PM or on TL of a profile will accomplish that). Just let me know.

Based on the sources that we have to date for Johannes and son Georg Friederich, I believe that the Last Name At Birth field for both profiles should be changed to Lÿmbach. While we don't have a birth/baptismal source for Johannes, that's the spelling on the earliest source record that we have for him, his son's baptismal record. I believe it's unlikely that the current descendant spelling of Limbaugh would have been the spelling of Johannes' surname at his birth. I also believe that the "middle name" of Michael should be removed from the data fields of Johannes' profile (my understanding is that no sources to date for Johannes indicate Michael as a given/middle name for him). If that's the case, I'll update the profile and retain the associated "Michael" Research Note in that section of the profile. This information existed on the profiles when I became involved with them and I think it's time to update it. Please let me know your thoughts on these suggestions.

Thanks again for collaborating on Johannes' profile.

Your cousin, Rick

Hi Rick,

I am delighted to hear from you, and glad that you are OK with my changes. I am still learning the ropes at WikiTree, but I am an Honor Code Signatory and am committed to the site's ideals. To answer your questions: 1. Yes, I'd be honored and happy to be added to the Trusted List and/or co-Profile Manager for all 3 of those profiles. I've been doing a good deal of research recently on Johannes and Georg Friederich especially. I am not finished with Johannes' profile. There are a few more things about his life that could be noted and documented, but I am doing it deliberately and piecemeal. 2. I have no preference as to whether the primary name in the profile should be Lymbach or Limbaugh. I will leave that to you. We should probably note somewhere that Limbaugh is an Anglicized version of the German name and that it could be spelled other ways. 3. Like you, I don't know of any documentation that would support a middle name of Michael.

I look forward to collaborating with you further... Brent Wiseman

P.S. I am planning a trip to Germany in May and hope to actually view firsthand the physical evidence for the baptism of Georg Friederich.

Thanks for your reply! I also look forward to collaborating.

To request to join the Trusted List of a profile, you can go to the Privacy tab of the profile, scroll to the "Join this List" section, and click on the link there to request to join the TL. That will notify the Profile Manager(s), any of which can then accept the request. You can do that for each profile for which you'd like to be on the TL. Alternatively, I can add you to the TL or as PM for a profile or group of profiles that I manage by manually entering your email address on the Privacy tab of a profile or in the Bulk Watchlist/Trusted List Changes page. If you'd prefer for me to add you that way, you'll need to send me a Private Message sharing your WikiTree account email address with me (don't post it in a public profile comment).

I hope that you enjoy your trip to Germany and that you're able to do in-person research there.

In case you're not already aware, Archion.de is a subscription-based web site that provides access to many German church record images, including records from Hüffenhardt. I hope to sign up for a 1-month subscription to do some more online research there when my schedule permits (I previously did a 1-month subscription at Archion several years ago).

Hello B. Wiseman. You edited a profile I manage of William Bean https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bean-2629. There are a few things I would like to address.

Concerning (per headstone on findagrave) as a source. Headstones are not a reliable source of birth and death dates. Memories fade, dates could be given in error. some headstones are made many years later long after immediate family have died. The manufacturer may make an error, the person who wrote the order may have made an error. Here is a link. Please read. It gives very detailed reasons why. https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/981479/deferring-findagrave-headstone-vital-dates-best-strategy.

A primary source is needed for birth and death dates. https://www.google.com/search?q=primary+documents+birth&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS942US942&oq=primary+documents+birth&aqs=chrome..69i57j33i160l3.7139j1j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8, dates on death certificates yes, other data, no. I dont capitalize last names. I don't like the way it looks. Because I am the profile manager I prefer it be left that way.

Wikitree doesn't use Ancestry source citations Records on Ancestry can only be accessed by members who pay a subscription. Family Search has them for free. If there is a Ancestry citation that can't be found on Family Search then a (See also) can be added below the sources section with that citation.

"You must include your sources when you put information on WikiTree. It's in our Honor Code. For more about our policies, see the Sources FAQ. A source is the identification of where you obtained information. Sources are critically important for genealogy. Some even say that genealogy without sources is mythology.[1] For more on why sources are important, see Getting Started With Genealogy: "Source, Source, Source." We don't copy and paste from other genealogical websites either.

I believe it would help if you were to familiarize yourself with Wikitrees policies and procedures. For starters: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Communication_Before_Editing

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Sources.

Focusing on : Examples, Embed them as references. Also how to cite publications.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Copying_Text

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Styles_and_Standards

Remember, when you became a member of Wikitree you signed the Honor Code. You might want to go back and review that. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Honor_Code

If you go to the drop down menu on a profile and click suggestions it will show data errors that need to be corrected. https://wikitree.sdms.si/function/WTWeb/Suggestions.htm?UserID=10205679. There are seven from profiles you manage.

Because you made so many edits to this profile I will probably have to reverse the changes you made because I don't feel like sifting and sorting and adding back what you removed and keeping what I feel is pertinent. There is a certain way we do things on Wikitree. It maintains consistency across all profiles and makes them asthethically pleasing. I would appreciate it if you intend to make edits to any of the profiles I mangage in the future you contact me first and we will discuss it. (refer to communication before editing) I don't capitalize last names. Because I am managing the profile I prefer it be left that way. Also, don't delete sources I or others have added previously, If you dont have a source for information add it under research notes. (In the help index). The Clan McBean publications are useless as a source because no one can access them. I don't add them for that reason.

The help index and g2g forum were my go to for everything. From looking at Census records it may be that you have ancestors who were neighbors or aquaintances of William Bean. I've searched and have found no relationship between you and I.

Hello Eileen Bradley,

Thank you for your message to me about the recent edits I made to the profile of William Bean (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bean-2629).

First, let me say that I am relatively new to WikiTree and I am still learning a few things. I want to apologize for not contacting you in advance of making my edits, and for anything else that was not up to WikiTree standards. I am a signatory of the honor code and wish to fully uphold all of the site's standards. I respect the site's ideals and wholeheartedly wish to abide by them. I do not wish to be disagreeable in any way.

That said, I have been researching William Bean for almost 30 years now and have collected a great deal of data on him. WikiTree's help site says, "You should not hesitate to improve upon a biography that someone else has started. Collaborative editing is what a wiki is all about.". It is in that spirit that I made my edits.

Here are my comments on your comments:

You said, "Concerning (per headstone on findagrave) as a source. Headstones are not a reliable source of birth and death dates. Memories fade, dates could be given in error. some headstones are made many years later long after immediate family have died. The manufacturer may make an error, the person who wrote the order may have made an error." Yes, I am well aware of all this. But surely you are aware that vital records were not kept in Tennessee until 1906 or so, and would not be available for someone who died in 1894? The tombstone dates may not be reliable, but they are all we have for William Bean. That is why I make a side note in the biography that the birth/death date is from the tombstone: in order to signify to the reader that it may not be a totally reliable source. I do realize that FindAGrave itself is not always accurate; but I have visited the tombstone several times myself and have my own photos.

You said, "I don't capitalize last names. I don't like the way it looks. Because I am the profile manager I prefer it be left that way." Fine, although that seems to be nothing but a personal preference of yours.

You said, "Wikitree doesn't use Ancestry source citations Records on Ancestry can only be accessed by members who pay a subscription. Family Search has them for free. If there is a Ancestry citation that can't be found on Family Search then a (See also) can be added below the sources section with that citation." Fine, I'll change all these as soon as I can get to it. There should be FamilySearch links for most of the sources I added.

You said, "You must include your sources when you put information on WikiTree. It's in our Honor Code. For more about our policies, see the Sources FAQ. A source is the identification of where you obtained information. Sources are critically important for genealogy. Some even say that genealogy without sources is mythology.[1] For more on why sources are important, see Getting Started With Genealogy: "Source, Source, Source." We don't copy and paste from other genealogical websites either." You seem to be accusing me of adding unsourced material in my biography; I have not done this. Nor have I copied and pasted from any other genealogical website. The language in the biography is my own, and it comes from my years of research into William Bean's life. If you find something in that biography that you think is unsourced-- and I don't think you will-- let me know (be more specific), and I will either source it or eliminate it. I DID put a quotation in the Notes section from Goodspeed's 1886 History of Franklin County, but that book is unquestionably in the public domain. The quotation is directly from the book; it is not from another website.

You said, "If you go to the drop down menu on a profile and click suggestions it will show data errors that need to be corrected... There are seven from profiles you manage." Thanks. I will get to work on these.

You said, "The Clan McBean publications are useless as a source because no one can access them. I don't add them for that reason." Please note: that source was not added by me; you'll have to direct that complaint to the person before me who added that source.

You said, "From looking at Census records it may be that you have ancestors who were neighbors or aquaintances of William Bean. I've searched and have found no relationship between you and I." William Bean is my direct ancestor, and I feel a personal motivation for having thorough, accurate, clear, and well-sourced information on his profile. That said, you stepped forward first as his profile manager, so I will respect that and hope that you will devote as much or more attention to his profile as I would.

Once again, I apologize for any oversights or violations of WikiTree standards, and for not contacting you before making my edits. I appreciate the collaborative nature of WikiTree. I am learning as I go, and I have no desire to be disagreeable to anyone.

Regards, B. Wiseman
