Nancy's last name at birth was neither Chamberlain nor Skeels. She was Nancy Anna Tilton, daughter of Joseph Tilton and Kezia Pearson/Parsons. Nancy was born in Loudon, New Hampshire as Anna Tilton. She was known as Nancy. Nancy married Timothy Chamberlain in 1802 in Danville, Vermont. He died in 1804, the year their daughter Harriet was born. Nancy (Tilton) Chamberlain then married Benjamin Skeels in 1806.
