DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Estienne by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Estienne:
Chastain-159 and Chastain-84 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate. Please take care not to lose the information on Chastain-159.
I see that there are not any sources yet for Pierre. Sources as especially important for this person because:
- Jeanne Laurent is supposed to be married to Etienne Chastain, not Pierre Etienne René;
- Are Pierre Etienne René and Etienne supposed to be the same person?
- If they are indeed the same person, then sources are indispensable for daughter Mary Magdalene, as she is not mentioned in other Chastain genealogies
- If not, sources are needed to prove that Pierre Etienne was the son of Jacques René Chastain and Jeanne Audet.
Thank you !
The information on his son Pierre Louis Chastain hints that his name is indeed Chastain, and they are in fact not descendants of the Chasteigner family (Estienne Chastain's parents are wrong - they should be disconnected. So the arms have no reason of being the Chasteigner arms linked below. I can't tell about the coat of arms on this page.
Chastain-159 and Chastain-441 appear to represent the same person because: Pierre, son of Estienne was most likely the "physician" that was the sibling of Anne Chastain.
One Mrs. J. W. T of Atlanta, Georgia a descendant of CLAUDE PHILIPPE DE RICHEBOURG had provided a copy of a manuscript relating to DE RICHEBOURG, which was compiled by the late Dr. Robert Wilson, of the Citadel at Charleston, S. C. The manuscript states that he (Claude Phillippe) married ANNE CHASTAIN and further traces their children. The manuscript surmises that ANNE CHASTAIN was probably the daughter or sister of Dr. Castaing or Castayne one of the two surgeons who accompanied the Huguenots to Manakin Town. The manuscript accepts the that DE RICHEBOURG took Anglican orders.
Further Richebourg records can be found: SOUTH CAROLINA HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL MAGAZINE, Vol. 44, page 250. Moreover, the same records disclose that Rene Richebourg's sons Charles, rene, and Samuel were active officers of the Anglican Church which served that portion of St. Stephen's parish lying in Craven County north of the Santee River. And also: SOUTH CAROLINA HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL MAGAZINE, Vol. 45, pages 162-167, 170-217, and Vol. 46, pages 40, 174.

- his actual family name was de Chasteigner
- the coat of arms above is wrong. Here are the arms of the Chasteigner family.
