Biography

Rachel Chancey, daughter of Daniel and Anne Overman Chancey, born August 7 1741 and died 1831 in McLean County, Illinois.[1] On December 16 1762 she married Samuel Stout Sr[2], who had moved from Lancaster Pennsylvania to Orange County, North Carolina that year. About 1786 they moved to Tennessee and returned to North Carolina in 1792. In 1825 Rachel and Samuel Stout moved with Ephraim, their son, to Stout's Grove, Illinois. In 1830 Rachel Chancey, his grandmother, was living with Ephraim[3] and died there in 1831.[4]

Research Notes

  1. Rachel Chauncey Stout was duplicated and was originally Chauncey-61. She is this person and not her half-sister. Both now read Chancey-78 and Chauncey-78.
  2. In his "Autobiography of Hosea Stout" the footnote 1 on page 58 spells his paternal grandmother's maiden name as Chancy (or Chauncey) and in reference as her mother's sister it is spelled Chancey. In Findagrave her parents' names are spelled Chancey.

Word of Caution

In the 1830 census for Tazewell Illinois Rachel is the female between the ages of 80-90 living with Ephraim Jr, her grandson. Ephraim Sr, her son is two lines above.

Rachel Chauncey-61 Stout is duplicate of Rachel Chancey-78 Stout. This is other spelling and in order to have one line the LNAB spelled Chancey-78 is choice and Chauncey listed as other name/spelling. Tried to remove Rachel Chauncey-61 Stout as her own sibling but would not allow. Please correct. Linda Barnett is the creator of Chauncey-61.
