James Andrew Cherry, son of John and Mary Cherry, was born on January 7, 1838 in Vaughan Township, Upper Canada.[1][2][3][4][5]
He was a 34 year old farmer when he married Elizabeth Sheardown on October 27, 1875 in Vaughan.[1][2] Elizabeth, daughter of Samuel and Isabel Sheardown, was 27 years of age, from King Township, and Methodist, while James was Lutheran.[2] Their marriage was witnessed by Peter Sheardown and James Sheardown of King, and solemnized by Lutheran Pastor, J. Fishburn.[2]
In 1883, James took over the family farm.[1] Elizabeth and James had seven daughters from 1876 to 1891.[1] In 1916, James sold his farm to Lorne McKewan and moved to Kleinburg.[1]
James died on April 15, 1920 in Kleinburg.[3][4][5] He was unable to walk, caused by a fall that had occurred 9 years earlier, and he had developed bronchopneumonia, from which he suffered approximately one week.[3] The informant for his death was his daughter, Lily Cherry, of Kleinburg.[3] He was buried on April 17, 1920 in Nashville Cemetery in Kleinburg, Ontario.[3][4][5]
