Biography

John Chesher was born in 1838 and died at the age of 46 in 1884. In 1858 he married Christiana Vane, with whom he had thirteen children, four of whom did not survive to adulthood.

John was a farmer. He was also the licensee of a hotel at Teasdale in the 1860s, and later at Trunkey. There are indications that he was plagued with financial problems.

Notes

The New South Wales BDM index gives John's date of death as 30 June 1880, but the death was registered in 1884 and the cemetery records show the date of death as 13 Nov 1884, so the date in the BDM index is probably wrong.
