Biography

Henry Clarke, the fifth son of Nathaniel Clarke, was born in Newbury, Massachusetts, on July 5 (or 12), 1673.[1][2]

He married first, Elizabeth Greenleaf, daughter of Capt. Stephen and Elizabeth (Gerrish) Greenleaf, in Newbury on November 7, 1695. She was the mother of all of his children, who were all born in Newbury. Elizabeth, their eldest son, and three of their daughters died of "throat distemper" in April 1723. The event was chronicled by a native poet in 18 verses.[1][3]

He married second, January 24, 1723-4, Mary Peirce.[1][4]

Henry removed to New Hampshire, eventually settling in Greenland about 1727, where he died June 9, 1749.[1]
