Alice was Cooke born about 1674, was the daughter of Joseph Cooke and Martha Stedman. She married first, Rev. John Whiting in 1693/4. He was born July 1, 1664 at Billerica, Massachusetts, son of Rev. Samuel and Dorcas (Chester) Whiting. [1][2][3]
They had three daughters, all dying in childhood. They lived at Lancaster, Massachusetts where Rev. Whiting was killed in an Indian attack on September 11, 1697. [4][5] and is buried in Old Settlers Burial Yard at Lancaster, Massachusetts. [6]
In May, 1698, Alice Whiting, relict widow of John Whiting of Lancaster and Samuel Whiting of Billerica posted bond for the administration of her husband's estate. [7]
On June 3, 1698, widow Alice made oath to the inventory of John Whiting's estate inventory, including real estate in Lancaster and Cambridge, and his personal estate valued at L211 9s. As administrator, she further acknowledged her late husband's debts submitted to the court, on January 17, 1698/9. [7]
After the death of her husband John, widow Alice Whiting married the Rev. Timothy Stevens of Glastonbury, Connecticut, at Cambridge on May 19, 1701, as his second wife. [8] He was born January 28, 1666, the son of Timothy and Sarah (Davis) Stevens of Roxbury. [5][9]
Alice died at age 40 on March 10, 1714, and is buried at Green Cemetery, Glastonbury. Her inscription reads: The Remains of Mrs Alice Stevens Who Died March the 10 Anno Dom 1714, Aetatis 40.[10]
Rev. Timothy Stevens died April 14, 1726, aged 60. [11]
