Biography

Ann (Copp) Saxton immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Ann was the daughter of William Copp and his first wife, Anne Rogers. A child was baptised 16 April 1630 at Hatton, Warwickshire. Entry gives only the father's name, William Copp. [1] [2]

Record of her baptism has not been found in the records of Hatton, Warwickshire. Based on her marriage in 1646, she is not likely to be the unidentified daughter of William Copp who was baptized in Hatton on 16 August 1630; Worthen suggested that the daughter baptized in 1630 was Martha, who married in 1650.[3] Anne is estimated to have been born some time after the birth of Joan, who was baptized in Hatton on 13 October 1625, and before 1630.

She married her first husband, Herman Atwood, on August 11, 1646.[4] Two children were born to their marriage: John and Sarah Atwood. [5][6][7]

Herman Atwood died in 1651 and Ann married Thomas Sexton (or Saxton) on March 10, 1651/2 in Boston, MA. Entry reads: Thomas Saxton was married to Ann Atwood, widow, 10th of the 1st month 1651 per Richard Bellingham, Esq. [8]

There were four Saxton children from this second marriage: Samuel, Joseph, Nathaniel, and Elizabeth.[6]

Anne Sexton died June 23, 1661, 15 days after the birth of her daughter Elizabeth Sexton.[6]

  2. Many sources, including Atwood and Woodgate and the Thwing Collection identify her mother as William Copp's second wife, Goodeth or Judith, but since Ann married in 1646, she has to have been born earlier than 1634, when William and Goodeth were married.

I've looked at the record and it certainly looks like Anne. just as transcribed. Baptism in 1630 does not mean that is when she was born. Baptism could come years after birth.

The 1630 baptism was already discussed in the profile. "Based on her marriage in 1646, she is not likely to be the unidentified daughter of William Copp who was baptized in Hatton on 16 August 1630; Worthen suggested that the daughter baptized in 1630 was Martha, who married in 1650."

That entry's given name really is illegible. I guess if I were to guess between anne and martha (the other unknown bpt. see William's profile) I probably would guess it said Anne.

You may want to look at this information:

U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 and U.S., New England Marriages Prior to 1700 Also DOB doesn't match FAG.
