Biography

When Joseph Edward Cotton was born on April 8, 1881,[1] in Talladega, Alabama,[2] his father, Peter, was 33 and his mother, Susan, was 33.[3] He married Sibyl 'Sibby' E. Holland (1887–1975) c.1903,[4] he was 22 and she was 16.[5] They had five children:

  • Joseph Edward Cotton, Jr. (1907–1971)
  • Benjamin Walter Cotton (1912–1988)
  • Gertrude May Cotton (1914–1986)
  • Bertie Louise Cotton (1920–2012)
  • Clara Elizabeth Cotton (1924–1999)[6]

He died on March 28, 1943, in Gadsden, Alabama, at the age of 61, and was buried in Benton County, Alabama.[7]
