Biography

When Bertie Louise Cotton was born on February 17, 1920, in Alabama, her father, Joseph, was 38, and her mother, Sibyl, was 33. She had two brothers and two sisters. She died on January 10, 2012,^[1] in Gadsden, Alabama, at the age of 91, and was buried in East Gadsden, Alabama.^[2]

Jacksonville - Funeral services for Bertie Louise Cotton, 91, will be Saturday, January 14, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with the Rev. James Owen officiating. Burial will be in the Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. Saturday. Ms. Cotton died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Gadsden Health and Rehabilitation. She is survived by several nieces, Mildred Atchley, Betty Holley, Francis Reynolds, Melissa Wechsler, Jennifer Curl and Julie Bowen; several nephews, Paul Griffith and Walter Cotton Jr. and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be David Curl, Jon Bowen, Danny Wechsler, Matthew Curl, Jonathan Bowen, James Bowen and Daniel Wechsler. Ms. Cotton was a native of Calhoun County; lived in Gadsden for many years and has resided in Jacksonville for the past 51 years. She was a member of Profile Baptist Church and was retired from Union Yarn Mill in Jacksonville. The family extends special thanks to the 800 Hall caregivers at Gadsden Health and Rehab for their compassionate, loving care. Ms. Cotton was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph E. Cotton Jr. and Walter Cotton and sisters, Gertrude Griffith and Clara Partain. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Profile Baptist Church.
