Biography

Jesse Davis was born in 1760 in Colony of Virginia.

Jesse and Sarah Enochs were married. Sarah was born in 1773 in Washington Co, Province of Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Captain Enoch Enochs and Rebecca (Morris) Enoch. Their known children were:

  3. Mary Davis (1802–1866)
  4. Louisa UNKNOWN (1803– )
  5. Rebecca Davis (1805– )
  6. Kinsey Davis (1807–1876)

Per History of Noble County, Ohio: With Portraits and Biographical Sketches of Some of Its Pioneers and Prominent Men: [4]

"This is, therefore, an authentic record of nearly all of the pioneer settlers of the township [Elk Township], together with the number of acres owned by each, and the value of the same in 1833." [...] "Among the owners of personal property in the township in 1833 are found the following names, which do not appear on the foregoing list:...Jesse Davis, Kinsey Davis, Isaac Davis, ...James Sweeny..." [...] "Prior to 1812 Jesse Davis and family, from Pennsylvania, settled in this township. His children were Isaac, Kinsey, Jesse, Nathan, Rebecca (Mrs. James Sweeny), Rachel (Mrs. Francis Miller), Polly (Mrs. Emanuel Hupp), Annie (Mrs. Henry Prior), and Louisa (Mrs. William Enochs). The family became scattered, and now has but few representatives in the county."
