Some sources say her place of birth was "Capilaw" but an online search shows the correct spelling was actually "Capielaw".
Eliza emigrated from Scotland to South Australia in 1839, with her parents on the ship Palmyra. Also on the ship was William Milne. They were subsequently married on 4 March 1842 in Holy Trinity Church, North Terrace, Adelaide, South Australia.
They went on to have 11 children.
Her husband was a Politician; he died in 1895.
She passed away in 1912 at the age of 94, at 55 Strangways Terrace, North Adelaide.
PERSONAL
The death occurred on Saturday evening, at her residence, 55, Strangways-terrace, North Adelaide, of Lady Milne, widow of Sir William Milne. Lady Milne, who was over 94 years of age, had long been an invalid, but her intellect was clear, even on the morning of her death. Until a month ago she regularly drove out in her carriage. For the past 15 or 16 years she had lived at North Adelaide, and, during the summer, at her house at Mount Lofty. She was of a genial and kindly disposition, but she was best known by those who lived a generation ago. She was born in Scotland, and arrived in South Australia in 1839, with her parents, in the same ship the Indus, which brought the late Sir William Milne, whom she married in 1842. She was previously Miss Eliza Disher. In 1892 they celebrated their golden wedding at Mount Lofty, and her husband died on April 23, 1893. There were ten children, six of whom survive. They are Mr. John Milne of Blackwood; Mr. George Milne, who is at present on a trip to England; Mrs. Frederick Price, Lady Stirling, Mrs. Ernest Ayers, and Mrs. Lomax Scott. The funeral will leave Christ Church, North Adelaide, for the West-terrace Cemetery this afternoon at half-past 3 o'clock.[2]
Eliza was buried at West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide, Adelaide City, South Australia, Australia[3]. PLOT: Road 3
