In 1755 the family was deported to Massachusetts. In 1760 he was listed at age 50 in a census in Newbury, Massachusetts.[2] They also appeared on a list in Newburyport, Massachussetts on 11 April 1761. [5]
After the end of the Seven Years' War in 1763, the Acadians detained in the Anglo-American colonies were finally free to leave. On 1 March 1765, James Murray, Governor of the Province of Quebec, issued a proclamation offering free land to new immigrants. Between 1765 and 1775, 1306 Acadians deported to New England immigrated to Quebec. [5] In 1767 they found a permanent home in the Province of Quebec. They boarded the schooner Tryal that left Newburyport, Massachussetts, around 15 June 1767 and arrived at the port of Québec on 16 July 1767. Travelling with Pierre and Marie-Josèphe were their children Élisabeth, Armand, and Marie-Modeste, and Pierre's sister Magdeleine Doucet. [5] The first mention of the family in Québec records was when Élisabeth Doucet was godmother to her niece Marie Doucet, on 20 August 1767, at Québec.
He died on December 27, 1775 in Quebec City and was buried the next day in the "cimetière des picotés" (smallpox victims cemetery).[6][2]
