Biography

Jane Eddington was born on April 11, 1850 to parents William and Jane Eddington in Thornbury, Gloucestershire, England, United Kingdom. [1]

At age 22, Jane married William Brown. The wedding took place on March 16, 1871 in Toronto, Canada.

The 1871 Canada Census recorded the couple soon after their marriage. Jane is recorded being 22 years old, ethnically English, and followed the Church of England. She and William lived together in Egremont in the Grey South District of Ontario.

The 1881 Canada Census recorded Jane at 31 years old. She was English and a member of the Church of England. Her residence was in Egremont in the Grey South District of Ontario, Canada. Living with her was husband William and children James, Oliver, Emma Jane, and Matilda.

Jane, 42, still lived in Egremont on the family farm during the 1891 Canada Census. In the home with her were husband William and children James, Oliver, Emma J., Matilda, John, Sarah, Margaret, Elizabeth, William, and newborn Mary.

The Brown family continued to live in Egremont during the 1901 Census of Canada. The household included William (age 58, farmer) and Jane (age 51) plus their children James (age 30, farmer), James's wife Martha (age 23), Oliver (age 28, farmer), Emma J. (age 26), John (age 22, farmer), Sarah R. (age 20, student), Maggie (age 17), Lizzie (age 15), Willie S. (age 11, student), and Agnes E. (age 9, student).[2]

Jane died on June 28, 1908 in Grey County, Ontario, Canada. She was 59 years old. Interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Grey County, Ontario. A photo of her headstone can be found here: [1]
