Biography

Immigrated to the US at age 1 (1841) with brothers Richard, James, Benjamin, and Griffith to Mineral Point, Iowa County, Wisconsin. This was the beginning of what amounted to a significant migration of Welsh to Wisconsin. ( Phillips G. Davies, "Welsh in Wisconsin", The Wisconsin Historical Society Press, 2006) Mother's first name probably Mary. The 1850 U.S. Census indicates that Mary was living in Mineral Point with the 5 boys. Eventually ran a store - possibly dry goods - in Cambridge, Idaho. Death certificate indicates he was born in the "South of Wales". References for various people of the same name and appropriate times can be found in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. Most likely seems to be LLanelly, Carmathenshire at the time of David's Birth.
