Biography

Joseph Edwards, son of Alexander Edwards, was born on August 8, 1647 (month 6 is August) in Springfield, Hampden County, English colony of Massachusetts Bay, New England. He was baptized by his parents on August 15, 1647.^[1] His mother may have been Sarah (Baldwin) Edwards. Only Alexander Edwards is listed on the Springfield Vital Records (for all of his children).

On January 2, 1671 in Northampton, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts colony, Joseph married Elizabeth Elmer.^[2] She must have died young because on Nov. 17, 1674, Joseph re-married to Hannah Atchison. The couple lived in Northampton, Hampshire County, colony of Massachusetts Bay, New England. They had the following children:^[3]

Hannah Atkinson married three times. Her first husband was Joseph EDWARDS. Then Benoni STEBBINS, then Thomas FRENCH. Hannah and Joseph had one child together Mary (Hannah) EDWARDS Hoyt Field.^{[citation needed]}

Joseph Edwards died on September 21, 1690 in Northampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay colony, New England.^[4]
