I believe my 9th great grandfather to be Thomas Etheridge (Etheredge) b. 19 Nov 1564 and d. 16 Feb 1612, and buried at All Hallows' Church, Tottenham Parish, Middlesex, England. (Sources: Ten Generations of the Etheredge/Etheridge/Ethridge Family in America; genealogical records also traced independently by other family research and my own use of records accessed through ancestry.com) From there it would appear that his descendants made their way to Virginia in the early days of its colonization, and slowly worked and farmed their way southwards over time through North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, ending their travels in south Alabama as the last of the Native American populations were forced out of these areas and the land primed for white settlement. From that point forward their fortunes mirrored the history of poor white farmers throughout the South, unredeemed by any great change until the advent of FDR's New Deal, service in the cataclysm of WWII, and most importantly (for them), lifted up by the great tide of post-war economic growth. Those who were veterans and had particular foresight used the GI Bill to become the first college graduates in their families, and thereby fully participate in a period of collective financial success unknown to any previous generation. My father was one of those men, and due to his determination to leave farming and perpetual poverty behind, he made the sacrifices necessary to attain his degree, worked hard in the US manufacturing sector that at that time dominated the world, and thus provided for his family's entry in to the great, comfortable American middle class.

I'm working on behalf of US Southern Colonies Project to document unsourced profiles with a connection to Virginia. Would like to have access to profile of Elizabeth Hatfielde Marrington to remove hyphenated surname. I also believe I have located family members for Elizabeth that need to be connected. Would appreciate it if you could add me to her trusted list.

I was working a bit on the Beverley family, and I noticed you have Elizabeth Tuydey (Tuydey-1) as a child of the Robert Beverley and Ann Standard, but this has Elizabeth being born before her mother. I think that you need to move her generation or so back. Life would be easier if every one didn't use the same names over and over, and occasionally marry their cousins!
Thanks,
Julie
Thanks!
