Abiud enter military service as a drafted soldier in the Wilkes Co. North Carolina militia on October 10th. 1778 at the approximate age of 16. Abiud served under Captain William Jackson who would later become his father-in-law. Abiud's application for his Revolutionary War pension was approved on March 4th, 1831 and he was placed on the roll for the State of Kentucky at a rate of forty dollars per year. His name is posted on the statue commemorating the Revolutionary War heroes of Johnson County in front of the court house in Paintsville, Ky. Abiud, George Blair, and John Hitchcock Sr. built a fort at the mouth of Big Mud Lick Creek at what would be known as Staffordsville, Ky. Abiud had an "Indian dog" and he would go around the vicinity of their encampment every morning to check for Indians. Abiud developed a discoloration on the side of his face. The day he died, Abiud was visiting his daughter. On his way to/from the barn, Abiud fell cutting this discoloration. The wound would not close and Abiud bled to death. Abiud is buried at the Patty Flats Cemetery in the Flat Gap area of Johnson County, Ky.

Marriages

Marriage of Abuid FAIRCHILD to Rebecca JACKSON (Married: about 1782):

Abiud FAIRCHILD was married about 1782 in North Carolina to Rebecca JACKSON.

Spouse (1):

Rebecca JACKSON was the daughter of William JACKSON and his first wife. She was born about 1762 in either Virginia or Wilkes County, North Carolina and died on 24 January 1801 in Ashe County, North Carolina. Abiud FAIRCHILD and Rebecca JACKSON had 7 known children.

Marriage of Abiud FAIRCHILD to Abigail ARMS (Married: 20 April 1825):

Abiud FAIRCHILD was married on 20 April 1825 in Floyd Co., Kentucky to Abigail ARMS.[7]

Abigail ARMS was born between 1780 and 1790 and it is thought that she died after 1840. There were no known children to have been born to this marriage, but Abigail ARMS had children before this marriage whose father's name is currently unknown. Family stories point towards the father of these children possibly being one of the CONNELLY family, but definite proof is lacking and the intermarrying of the families would probably hamper DNA testing of all but a direct male line YDNA test. At present a valid person that has taken that test has not been found.

Census Records of Abuid FAIRCHILD, After death of Rebecca JACKSON (Rebecca JACKSON, Died: about 24 January 1801)

After Rebecca (JACKSON) FAIRCHILD's death about 1801, it is thought that Abiud FAIRCHILD sold his land and moved his young family. Perhaps spending time with his father in law, William JACKSON who had bought and moved about 1794 to what became Carter County, Tennesee, but was then Washington County. Tennessee did not become a state until 1796. However by 1810 he is listed in Washington County, Virginia and was probably in the process of moving his family to Kentucky.
Susannah Brooks was put forth as possible 2nd wife of Abiud by Carla Mascara on 12 July 2023, but no documentation was given and known records do not support a marriage to this individual.
No female in 1810 census of appropriate age and no female in 1820.
1810 United States Federal Census Record of Washington County, Virginia[11]
The Household of "Abiud Farchid" in Washington County, Virginia in 1810 contained individuals within the following age brackets:
1 Free White Male Aged Under 10 Years
Tentative Researcher's ID: Asa J. FAIRCHILD - estimated age of 9 years
1 Free White Male Aged of 45 Years and Upwards
Tentative Researcher's ID: Abiud FAIRCHILD - estimated age of 48 years

Tentative Researcher's ID: Hannah FAIRCHILD - estimated age of 18 years.
Tentative Researcher's ID: Susannah FAIRCHILD - estimated age of 16 years.
Conflicts with known family information that may conflict with Tentative Research ID's for this family.
The individual listed in this household who is believed to have been Mary FAIRCHILD is in question. This is because she is believed to have been the mother to 3 children before she married George Washington BLAIR. Mary FAIRCHILD is believed to have been married around 1813 to George Washington BLAIR. But she is also believed to have been the mother to 3 children, the youngest two, Enoch FAIRCHILD (Born: abt. 1806) and Celia FAIRCHILD (Born: about 1810), could have been living in their grandfather's household. It is not believed that George Washington BLAIR was their father. The other child, Lowry FAIRCHILD was not born until about 1813. One researcher pointed to a possible surname of the father of these 3 children as being DUGGARD, but no additional information is known. The question being if Mary FAIRCHILD was listed in her father's household and these 3 children were indeed her children where were they in 1810. At the very least the first child should have been enumerated as he had been born about 1806, but the column is not noted to have a free white male under the age of 10 except for the one attributed to Asa J. FAIRCHILD. So the question remains who was this female if it was not Mary and if it was Mary, where is her son Enoch? If Enoch was the young male child, where was Asa FAIRCHILD who should have fallen in that age bracket as well.
Missing from his household were his wife, Rebecca JACKSON who died between the birth of Asa J. FAIRCHILD and the 1810 census record. Some researchers state her death occurred 24 January 1801 in Ashe County, North Carolina.
His daughter, Sarah FAIRCHILD, had married James CURTIS about 1802 and had 2 children by him before he deserted her. She had another child, Anna (b. abt. 1806) by another man (presumably Absolum SMITH as that is the name of the father listed on the daughter's death record) and met and married John COLVIN before 1810 as she is believed to have been enumerated within his household in this year.
His daughter, Phoebe FAIRCHILD was married James Albert Sewell on 28 May 1806 and as such should be listed in his household for this year.
1820 United States Federal Census Record of Floyd County, Kentucky, Household of Abind FAIRCHILD[12]
The Household of "Abiud Farchid" in Floyd County, Kentucky in 1820 contained individuals within the following age brackets:
1 Free White Male Aged 45 Years and Upwards [only individual enumerated in household]
Tentative Researcher's ID: Abiud FAIRCHILD - estimated age 58 years
1 Individual Engaged in Agriculture. No other free white individuals or Slaves enumerated.
Researcher's Notes:
In 1820 Census record, Abuid Fairchild is the only person in his household. He is listed as age 45 and older which agrees with our calculated age of 58 years of age. It appears that the census taker left out the column that showed the number of foreigners not naturalized and placed the column after that in the census enumeration. Thus Abuid Fairchild is listed as being involved in agriculture.

Census Records of Abiud FAIRCHILD, after marriage to Abigail ARMS (Married: 20 April 1825)

Researcher's Notes:
Abigail ARMS is a puzzle that will probably never be solved. She had at least three children by an unknown man which tradition states was probably a member of the CONLEY family, but no proof has ever been found to prove this story. She was listed in the 1820 census record of Floyd County, Kentucky as the head of her own household.[13]
The individuals living within the 1820 census record of Abigail ARMS were enumerated within the following age brackets:
2 Free White Males Aged Under 10 Years
Tentative Researcher's ID: Aaron ARMS - estimated age about 7 Years
Tentative Researcher's ID: Moses ARMS - estimated age about 4 Years
1 Free White Male Aged Between 16 and 26 Years
1 Free White Female Aged Under 10 Years
Tentative Researcher's ID: Catherine ARMS - estimated age about 9 years
1 Free White Female Aged Between 16 and 26 Years
1 Free White Female Aged Between 26 and 45 Years
Tentative Researcher's ID: Abigail ARMS - estimated age 30 - 40 years as she is probably the Free white female in the 1830 census listed in the age bracket of 40 to 50 years

There were some undocumented marriages brought in with a merge. They were only listed in the text, not with profile links. I appended the available info at the end of the existing text, for review and proper integration. They were sourced with the LDS resource files under "See Also".
