Joseph Field was born about 1657 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was the son of Zechariah and Mary (Stanley) Field.[1] Joseph and his son, Deacon Joseph Field, Jr. became two of the first settlers of Sunderland, Massachusetts.[2] Captain Joseph field drew lot number 12 on the east side and his son drew lot number 6 on the west side. Later, his grandson, Joseph Field, III lived at lot number 12.[3]
On June 28, 1683, Joseph married Joanna Wyatt, daughter of John Wyatt.[4] Their first child Mary, was born in July of 1684.[5] Joanna, Joseph,[6] an Infant daughter,[7] Joanna,[8] Lydia,[9] Jonathan,[10] Martha,[11] Abigail,[12] Israel,[13] and Thankful[14] were born over the next eighteen years. Joanna died March 23, 1722.[15] Joseph then married Mary (Wells) Belden, the daughter of Thomas Wells and Mary (Beardley) Wells and the widow of Stephen Belding, on the 2nd of January 1722/3.[16] Mary died the 15th of March 1751 in Northfield, Massachusetts.
Joseph died February 15, 1736,[17] in the town he helped to establish. He was most likely laid to rest in Sunderland.[18] His wife Mary died at Northfield, Massachusetts on on Mar 15, 1751.

Notes
Pope stated that this couple had "children Rebecca (married Robert Lord), [and] Martha (married Richard Thurston)" [Pope 430]. This may be based on the will of the remarried widow of Christopher Stanley, who called these two women her daughters. Christopher Stanley himself named no children in his will, and the nature of his bequests implies he was childless. Also, his widow named several children of her second husband, William Phillips, as if they were her own (William, Nathaniel, Elizabeth, Phebe and Sarah), but all of these were the children of William Phillips with his first wife.RootsWeb (Comment by Beryl Meehan.

Stanley Note No positive proof has yet been found that Mary was a daughter of Christopher and Susanna Stanley, but older genealogies and resources point to that as a possibility. The most recent research suggests that Christopher and Susanna had no children.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:
Field-5392 and Field-545 appear to represent the same person because: dups with same parents and same spouse. The newer profile has the wrong dates as he was born AFTER his marriage date
Field-3932 and Field-545 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents; at least one same spouse. But the vitals are off. Are these the same man? Or two different ones?
