The biography for Jane Firestone is empty. What can you add?
I am the daughter of two southerners from the East Tennessee and West North Carolina areas. My mother was Vega Eleanor Burns, with the maiden name Chambers, My father was John Theodore Burns. I grew up in Oregon and only got to know my extensive family in Blount County, Tennessee as a young adult. I have met most of my cousins and all of my aunts and uncles who were still alive in the 1970s. I have three older brothers, John T Burns of Lafayette, CA, David Lawrence Burns of Tacoma, WA, and William Frederick Burns, now deceased.
My mother's family comes from Swain County, NC. My maternal grandparents moved to Blount County around 1920 and so there was a break in contact with the maternal line. Three of my maternal and paternal aunts are or were members of DAR: Inez Burns, Edith Little, and Marian Harrison.
My paternal aunt, Inez Burns, was a teacher and historian for Blount County. Her book, History of Blount County, Tennessee: From War Trail to Landing Strip, was published in 1955. During her time as a teacher, Inez began collecting data from cemeteries in Blount County, She told me that the collection process took about 10 years. Her sister, Edith Little, also collected burial records for the county and published them in her own book.
I married Gary Frank Firestone in 1976 at my family home in Medford, Oregon. We have one son, Elliot Theodore Firestone, born in 1989 in Portland, Oregon.
