DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Peter by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Peter:

The second record cited above describes a Peter Fite who moved to Virginia in 1800 and to Tennessee in 1801, where he ultimately died. It names his wife as Barbara Hedenger, apparently agreeing with the first record cited.

The Peter in this profile remained in North Carolina and owned multiple properties there when his will was probated. Furthermore of the eight children named in his will only one name (Jacob) agrees with any of the eight children named in the record you cite.

It seems clear that these are two different Peter's.

Jim, I'm not disagreeing with you but hoping to clarify the 2nd document I offered. The 2nd document clearly states that Peter Fite who married Barbara Hedenger was the son of Johannes Fite and his wife Catherine. Peter's profile on this page also claims the same parents. That's my confusion. Is the 2nd record I posted in error. Thanks for you input.

I have not researched this Peter Fite but I do know that a great deal of the information in that book is correct but some were connected in error.

Sorry for the delay is responding. I agree that the parentage issue needs to be worked out, if possible. It may be that the author of the second document (Elizabeth Mitchell Stephenson Fite, 1907) is wrong, or conflated to Peter Fite's, or it could be that this profile is wrong. I suggest that you add a research note to this profile explaining the issue and cite the Ancestry sources you found. Meanwhile, let's all continue to research the family.

Donna/Mary,

When do you think you will have time to clean up this profile? I have the profiles of Peter's wife and many of his children. Of course I can handle the merges of some of the children, but some I can't.

Now that it's been started I would really like to see this entire Fite line cleaned up and the duplicates weaned out.
