Biography

Mary Ellen Freeman was born to Catherine Marsh Freeman and Wyatt Bailey Freeman most likely in Macon County, TN near Frog Pond [1].

By 1870, the U.S. Federal Census indicates Mary was living with her mother, sister Sarah, and paternal grandparents Richard Freeman and Ellen Freeman in Macon County, TN. The 1880 U.S. Census indicates that her mother had remarried to Thomas Hansford (T.H.) Lee and the family had moved to Gum, Monroe County, Kentucky. This census has her last name listed as Lee. Also listed on the census is her full sibling Sarah and step-siblings and or half-siblings Acenia, Betty and Lucy Lee [2].

The 1900 U.S. Federal census indicates that she married Joseph Brandon in 1888. She had 4 children Henry, Burley Harrison, Lois, and Anna [3]. Her sister Sarah C. Freeman married her brother-in-law Jonathan Brandon around 1884 [4]

After her first husband died, she lived with her youngest son Henry Brandon and family in Gum, Monroe County, KY [5].

She died in 1948 in Fountain Run, Kentucky. By this time she was married to Jim Evens and is buried in the Akersville Cemetery in Monroe County, KY with her first husband Joseph William Brandon [6] [7].
