Biography

Helen (Frock) Bowman was born in Maryland.
Helen (Frock) Bowman has German Roots.

Helen, daughter of Daniel Peter Frock and Mary Alice Wolf,[1] was born 9 June 1889 in Carroll County, Maryland.[2][1]

In 1900, eleven-year-old Helen lived in what is now Myersville, Carroll County, with her parents Daniel (age 46, butter factory) and Mary Alice Frock (45, mother of three, all living), and her sister Mary Edna Frock (17).[1]

On 28 October 1907 in Union Mills, Carroll County,[citation needed] she married Oscar Raymond Bowman,[3] son of Philip Stambaugh Bowman and Lydia Emeline Keller.[citation needed] They had four known children:

  1. Unnamed Infant Bowman (still born 12 March 1911).[4][5]
  2. Alice Emeline (Bowman) Berry (b. 5 May 1913;[6][7] m. Stanley McGeorge Berry;[7] d. 12 March 2007).[6][7][8]
  3. Edna Martha Rachel (Bowman) Fox (b. 17 August 1915;[9][10][11] m. John Alfred Fox;[10][12] d. 29 September 2008).[9][10]
  4. Daniel Oscar Bowman (b. 21 June 1923;[13] m. Louise Mary Colgan;[3] d. 20 June 1999).[13]
Helen (Frock) Bowman was a Pennsylvanian.

Oscar R. (age 27, stationery salesman) and Helen H. Bowman (20, no children) owned 231 West Hanover Streetin Hanover, York County, Pennsylvania, by 1910.[14]

In 1920, Oscar R. (37, stationery store salesman) and Helen H. Bowman (30) owned 225 West Hanover Street in Hanover, which they shared with their daughters Alice "Emeline" (6) and Edna Martha Rachel Bowman (4).[15]

Oscar R. (age 47, stationery store merchant), Helen H. (40), A. Emeline (16), Edna (14) and Daniel Oscar Bowman (6) remained in Hanover in 1930.[16]

In 1935 through 1940, Oscar R. (age 57, owned retail stationery store) and Helen H. Bowman (50) owned their home at 307 West Hanover Street in Hanover, where they lived with A. Emeline (26, billing clerk for wholesale notions) and Daniel O. Bowman (16, stationery salesman).[17] The record states that Oscar had finished his freshman year of high school and Daniel, his sophomore year.[17] Helen completed eight years of formal education and Emeline, her sophomore year of college.[17]

Helen died 25 October 1975 in Adams County, Pennsylvania,[2] and was buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hanover.[18]
